Why Patriot General Contractors Should Replace Your Windows

Worried about how high window replacement costs are in Maine? The only reason we’ll suggest replacing your windows is if we’re certain it’ll save you money on the cost of heating and cooling your home. We use the best replacement windows, so you can be sure you’ll enjoy your new, high-quality windows for years to come!

Our Process

We strive to suggest the best window solutions for your home! Whether you hire us for repairs or replacement windows, we use a similar process to make the project as smooth as possible. Both will start with an inspection, and we’ll only suggest replacing your windows if absolutely necessary. If your original frames and trim are in good shape, we’ll leave those in place, and simply insert the new window right into the existing frame. This decreased the amount of time the project will take, and preserve the window’s original look.

If the frame or surrounding area is deteriorating, we’ll suggest replacing them with full-frame windows. This method will also allow you to maximize your visible glass. We’ll start by removing the old trim and windows. When we’re finished, we’ll insulate the area, and secure the new window into place. We’ll wrap up the project by insulating around the window and new trim, if required.

Because we supply the best replacement windows in Maine, all windows are available in standard and custom sizes.

How to Choose Replacement Windows

Replacing windows is a big investment, so it’s important to take these factors into consideration when choosing new windows for your home:

  • Climate: We’re no strangers to cold and windy winters! That’s why it’s smart to choose windows with low-temperature wind resistance. It can also be beneficial to install window with a low-emissivity coating, which blocks UV rays from fading furniture and helps maintain your home’s desired temperature.

  • Style: Your home’s architectural style should be the deciding factor on which windows to install in your home. For example, modern windows might not look best on a home with traditional New England architecture.

  • Maintenance: Not all window materials are created equal! Wooden window frames will need to be stained or repainting every few years, while windows made with vinyl don’t require any attention at all.

  • Placement: Having windows on multiple walls of a room maximizes sunlight and creates cross ventilation to cool your home in warmer months.

Styles and Types of Replacement Windows

While we can add any type of windows to your home, these are some of our most popular options:

  • Single-hung windows: These common, easy-to-clean windows only open from the bottom.

  • Double-hung windows: Similar to single-hung windows, this style is known as “sash” windows and can be opened from the top or bottom, providing great ventilation.

  • Awning windows: Also known as “top hung” windows, these windows have a hinge at the top and open out at the bottom. This versatile window type allows extra ventilation in a home.

  • Casement windows: Like awning windows, these windows have hinges on the side and open out vertically. They’re an excellent source of ventilation and natural light.

  • Sliding windows: These windows are a combination of one fixed window, and another movable one on a track. This option is great for wide areas and is easy to open and close.

  • Picture windows: While these windows are perfect for unobstructed views, they are fixed and will not provide ventilation.
